HOMEMAKER/COMPANION
The Homemaker/Companion is a person who assists the patient to maintain the home, and assumes the duties undertaken by the customary homemaker. The Homemaker does not render any hands-on personal care to the patient.

LINE OF AUTHORITY:
Reports patient concerns to the Administrator or designee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of at least the ninth grade level of secondary education preferred.
- Minimum of 18 years of age.
- Demonstrates maturity and a sincere interest in the patient.
- Demonstrates good personal grooming and health habits.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Demonstrate mental acuity high enough to write, read and adequately communicate with patients.
- Evidence of satisfactory Level 2 background screening.
DUTIES:
Performs the functions generally undertaken by the natural homemaker, including such duties as preparation of meals, laundry, and shopping in the home setting with emphasis on the following:
- Maintains the home in an optimum state of cleanliness and safety depending upon the patient’s and the caregiver’s resources;
- May provide casual, cosmetic assistance, such as brushing the client’s hair, assisting with make-up, filing and polishing nails but not clipping nails;
- May stabilize the client when walking, as needed, by holding the client’s arm or hand;
- Reports to the appropriate supervisor all incidents or problems observed related to his or her work or to the caregiver;
- Reports any unusual incidents or changes in the patient’s behavior to the registered nurse;
- Maintains confidentiality of patients and agency matters.
- Responsible for providing to patient and nurse registry copies of any documentation which reflects the services provided. This will be stored by the nurse registry in the client’s file; and
- Submits all required documentation in a timely manner.
